Tuesday February 5th was a big night for Weta Digital (and CMPR) with wins in 6 out of 6 nominated categories at the 17th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards held at the Beverly Hilton. Just a couple of miles away, the Weta Digital team on Alita: Battle Angel came out to Westwood for the premiere of their breathtaking new film.
The VES Awards always stands out as a great time and a chance for visual effects artists from all over the world to come together to celebrate each other’s work. Below are the categories in which Weta Digital artists and/or teams took home awards:
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature for Avengers: Infinity War:Weta Digital’s Matt Aitken along with Dan DeLeeuw, Jen Underdahl, Kelly Port and Dan Sudick
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project for Childish Gambino’s Pharos: Weta Digital’s Keith Miller and Thelvin Cabezas, along with colleagues Alejandro Crawford and Jeremy Thompson
Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature for Avengers: Infinity War; Thanos: Weta Digital’s Sidney Kombo-Kintombo and Paul Story, along with Jan Philip Cramer and Darren Hendler
Outstanding Model in a Photoreal or Animated Project for Mortal Engines; London: Weta Digital’s Matthew Sandoval, James Ogle, Nick Keller and Sam Tack.
